We’ve made some changes at SuicideLine Victoria to offer more options to our clients.

In addition to the single session counselling services provided to all callers and online counselling users, we now offer multi-session services to eligible clients.

Single session counselling

In a single session, each interaction is treated as a stand-alone counselling session. A professional counsellor will work with the client on their presenting concern and identifies the next steps in their journey to safety and recovery.

Using evidenced-based therapeutic intervention, our counsellors focus on a client’s strengths and skills, and help to identify and practice things the client can do in the moment.

A single counselling session is intended to help clients recognise their strengths and inner resources and find a solution themselves.

If a client is at risk, alternative support may be required, including multi-session counselling.

Multi-session counselling

SuicideLine Victoria’s multi-session counselling service is a tailored program for clients who may require up to four sessions with the same counsellor who present as low-moderate risk. This service is also available for clients who may not be able to access local support.

The multi-session program uses a strengths-based, trauma-informed and recovery centred approach. During the first session, the counsellor will undertake a risk assessment, and with the client prepare a multi-session goal plan based on an assessment of need.

During each session, the counsellor will work with the client to support them in the achievement of their goals. At the successful conclusion of the program clients will have worked through recovery-based goals and developed a set of skills for self-management.
