On the Line to work with NSW Government to counter violent extremism
On the Line is proud to announce that we are delivering a new service called Step Together, funded by the NSW Government.
Following on from the Minister for Counter Terrorism David Elliott’s release today, Step Together is a new initiative that is part of the NSW Government’s commitment to counter violent extremism.
Step Together offers community advice and support through a helpline and online service for people who may be concerned or worried that someone they care about may be trying to effect political and social change through violence.
On the Line CEO Kim O’Neill said, “This is an exciting opportunity to continue our work encouraging people to feel better, building resilience and connecting people with community support. We are pleased to be working with the NSW Government to provide advice and support for anyone in the community who is concerned about violent extremism.”
Step Together aims to help people who may be vulnerable to extremist ideologies and need support, but haven’t committed a crime. The helpline will offer members of the public information, advice and referrals to services that can help.
The helpline will be answered by highly trained members of our Step Together team, all of whom are qualified professional counsellors.
On the Line has been providing professional counselling support for over 55 years. On the Line’s counsellors provide telephone, web chat and video counselling services to more than 75,000 people each year.
Step Together is available from 7am to 9pm, seven days a week. Anyone in NSW who is looking for advice and support about violent extremism can call 1800 875 204 or visit steptogether.com.au
